Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education

At St Joseph’s, we want our pupils to develop knowledge, skills and attributes which keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepare them for life and work in the future. We aspire for our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to the school and wider community. We live in a constantly changing and evolving society, where our children face an increasing amount of safeguarding issues. It is therefore important that we teach our pupils high quality PSHE and RSE lessons which give them the skills they need to keep safe and healthy.

We intend to do this by:

Through long, medium and short term planning that is progressive and cohesive across the year groups and provides opportunities to revisit previous learning:

  • All teachers record pupils PSHE learning in their individual PSHE book
  • Teachers are aware of the learning outcomes that are taught
  • All teachers ensure the learning outcomes are met through their planning
  • All teachers use Ten:Ten to teach the RSE lessons

  • Pupils will have resilience
  • Pupils will be aware of their mental and emotional health and be able to talk about how they feel
  • Pupils will have knowledge about how to keep themselves safe and healthy both emotionally and physically
  • Pupils have awareness of British Values, protected characteristics and diversity
  • Pupils have an understanding of relationships and sex education
